The product itself is very simple: Assorted eyeshadow and lipgloss colours and applicators. To hit dimensional requirements, I helped develop an oven-bakery theme showcasing the products on baking trays with minimal packaging.

Planning the main body of the oven box wasn’t instantly obvious to me in terms of structure type. The first version was functional but ended up being too complex and awkward to assemble so the second concept I explored became more obvious – a customized roll end tuck structure.

The remaining structure was very simplistic and had only lean material demands. Avoiding single use plastics is important to me so I designed a symmetrical insert where 2 pieces using the exact same dieline could hold and allow the product to slide out when opened.

Perfecting the tolerances was the only objective of the second stage of this project, to ensure the items were secure but not to difficult to load or remove by the end user.

In an effort to allow extended life of the oven structure, a packaging sleeve dedicated to all the legal info and retail marketing slides over the main oven box body and can be discarded after the item is purchased. This way, the main oven body can have dedicated theme artwork placed on it which adds to the product’s appeal and acts as storage.

The final outcome is very cute and has drawn lots of attention at toy fair events as well as the eyes of popular influencers that showcase unboxings.
